I am a nephew of George P. Hughes, the marine diver who found bodies at the bottom of the lake in 1939. The State Police came to our house at the request of the Governor to get his help. I am delighted to see the team efforts of the Hughes divers on your site. Thank you.

As a child I spent every summer at the girlscout lodge, then became a leader and then a life guard. As I grew older and got my car, it was dances at the park and pizza at the grotto. If anyone has pictures of the girl scout camp I would love to get copies I have so many memories and always dreamed of owning the lodge.

I enjoyed taking my father to the lake as part of tracing my family history. I have pictures and stories of my Great grand father John Pattison(died 1968), who I was told owned the lake, well before WWII. I have pictures and some old stories, I was told thes by dad , who has the pics and my grandfather Carlton Pattison, who ran the Air products plant. The lake is awsome

My grandparents were Leanore and William Megargel who lived on First street in Warden Place. My great grandfather was the Deputy Sheriff of Harvey's Lake and was murdered in 1930. It has always been a mystery about the details surrounding his death and my family would love to hear from anyone that may know of any details pertaining to his death even though it was 80 years ago, this July 20th... I spent practically every summer at the lake with my grandparents and they were the best summers a child could possibly have! I have so many great memories of this lake. I am presently at the lake for the first time in about 10 years and I am glad to see it still pretty much looks the same!

I enjoyed the video of the carousel which I rode many times at Harveys Lake as a child. Got the brass ring often for a free ride.

John Hanson of Hanson's Picnic Grounds was a great uncle of mine and suffice it to say that my family spent many hours at the lake -practically all of them at Picnic Grounds.It's really a pleasure reading all of the comments on this great site because everyone else seems to have enjoyed their time at the lake as much as we did. I am surprised about one thing though. There are no comments about the bingo game run at the Picnic grounds which in itself was an institution. Great job!! John Hanson

Thanks for a visit back to Harvey's Lake. I have so many memories of the lake from the 50's-60's. I wonder if you have any information or photos of Harvey's Lake Boat Club (later Yacht Club. That's where we spent our weekends...Sunday sailboat races and wonderful people.

My family has made the Lake our summer home since 1910!! We will celebrate our 100th summer over the July 4th weekend. Harveys Lake is no less than a magic place for us.

Hello everyone. My parents had a cottage on Carpenter Road. Loved the pizza at Joe's Grotto. Taught my son how to fish off the bridge at Sunset. My Mom loved playing bingo there. I remember the arcade also. I rented a boat from the guy who had the scuba diving school on the lake. We spent our days at Old Sandy Bottom beach and nights at Hansons. My son visited the lake last summer. Old Sandy Bottom beach is there but now a private swim club. We walked the grounds of Hansons. What is left you ask ? The bumper car pavillion, rest rooms, The steel section of the roller coaster track where the train went under, Hansons Resturant, Bingo hall, Arcade, and the building over the water. Wonderful site. I have been going to Harveys Lake for nearly 50 years for our Rusnak family reunion. A family member had a cottage a block off the lake near Sandy Beach. I will never forget walking to Sandy Beach and Hansons as a child with my cousins the last Saturday in July every year. We still have the reunion every year at Sandy Beach as the family no longer has the cottage. However, my wife and I purchased Pole 85 in 2006 and are now regulars at the lake. The lake has become very "private" compared to the old days and I wish there was more beach area for those who just want to visit and enjoy the lake. Many of the old cottages are disappearing as they were built for the summer and difficult and costly to convert to efficient 4 season homes. We love the lake as... Read more

Recollections of an 80yr old. As a boy pop would take us back to his roots. Grandpa Wm. Williams and brother Dan built two cottages up the Mountain(Primitive in nature, outhouse, kerosene lanterns, ice box and a walk down the mountain to fetch back pails of water from the spring below. Fondly recall Sunset,The Penny arcade, hot dogs and great french fries, Wordens, Carneys bar, Sam the Butcher, The Bowling Alley and the Picnic Grounds. We could sit on the porch and watch the riders on the mountain side of the Mowhawk riding club.Someone had a PA system down in the valley that constantly bellowed, BYE BYE Blackbird. The lake water was so cold but refreshing. Once rowed the boat for Uncle Dan as we trolled for that big lake trout he sought. Mom and Grams were Bingo addicts. Visiting friends. This locale has the very best of all possibilities a relaxing and gorgeous rural setting the nearness of great educational institutions and the best entertainment in the world. A wonderful niche in the present. We are looking forward to a return trip already.

My Aunt, Helen Mayer Gibbs, passed away this month in GA. She was the last of my immediate family that was raised at the lake. The family home is now the public boat launch.

Great website,my grandfather had his medical practice and a cottage @ Harveys Lake years ago and as kids we loved Hansons,the lake,etc. We haven't been up there in way too many years!!!

Relatives from both sides of my family lived in this area. I remember "going back" to Pa. for family reunions (Tregans & Gruvers) every year @ Harvey's Lake. Usually we were at the Hanson Park but when not there Sandy beach called. During the 60's it wasn't summer if you didn't have a family party at Harvey's Lake. We also got to see our Steele, Lamoreaux and Atherholt family there. This is such a great site that it makes me want to take the next generation of the family back for a visit.

My grandfather was born in Harvey's Lake, and my father was born in Wilkes Barre. I have heard lots of stories about the area. Someday I will come and see it for myself.

My uncle's family owned a beautiful home at Harvey's Lake. As a Brooklyn girl, it was the greatest summers I remembered..Hansons was really a great treat,even better than Coney Island...and I would go with a family friend that had a boat....also I loved playing BINGO at the lake, and my Aunt Sharon would switch cards in the middle of the game...and the Bingo people would yell at her all the time to stop cheating.

I love the site! I am 43 years old, I was raised at harveys lake. I lived on Lakeview Terrace. I can still hear Hansons Park Carousel Music and the screams from the roller coaster riders in my head to this date. I was so sad when the park closed its doors for rides in 1983. I went there almost to the day it closed. I also do remember the years we were advised not to swim due to alge and the lake was treated several times. I do remember a drowning in the 70s I believe. A boy who either lived or stayed at the lake near hansons, his last name was Zupa. Not sure if the first name was Jay or not. Kepp up the good work. Harveys Lake lives in my mind to this day.
